Mommy Mondays {Something New}

These past few weeks have been a bit of a whirlwind from surgery and recovery at Duke, Christmas, New Years and Adam's current stay at Northeast Georgia Hospital for Physical Therapy Rehab. We have adjusted to a new temporary routine and the kids have been amazing every step of the way. In the light of my new #1 job of taking care of Adam (and of course the kiddos) I am going to do something a little new for the next several weeks for Mommy Mondays...Movie Reviews, ha!

Movies have been the one easy thing to do as a family with Adam in the hospital that accomplishes many things at once for the kids...
1) Spend Time with Daddy
2) Entertain (without the boys fighting)
3) Quiet

Through the help of friends and family we have been able to have family movie nights where me and the boys spend the night with Adam and pick a movie, have popcorn and hot chocolate (and Micheli gets to have a night out without her brothers playing with friends and cousins).

We mostly make due with the Blockbuster Express rentals (we cancelled our DVD by mail from Netflix and still have streaming but the wi-fi connection at the hospital is no where near fast enough to keep the movie streaming online). So, the movies may be a little older than new releases, but hopefully the reviews will be helpful and at the very least entertaining :)

First up is COWBOYS AND ALIENS starring Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford

Rated PG-13

Adam and I previewed this first to make sure it was ok for the boys (well, I mainly previewed and Adam slept, ha!) Besides from the aliens and a little bit of fighting it was pretty tame for the boys but may not be everyone's ideal family movie. They love action anyway and when you throw in Cowboys, Indians and Aliens it makes it really exciting.

I will be honest though, when I saw the previews for this I thought it was a little out of reach and something that I would definitely not waste my time watching but Adam wanted to see it so I went for it.

Set in 1875, A cowboy (Daniel Craig) wonders into a mining town from the wilderness without any memory of who he is. It quickly comes to light that he is an outlaw wanted for various crimes. Not too long after the aliens attack and begin snatching up the people with very unique mini planes and harpoon type harnesses. Because the cowboy has a pretty awesome bracelet on his wrist that can fight the aliens and a respectful/hero-like demeanor the townsfolk choose to trust him and let him lead them to save their loved ones. Harrison Ford plays the part of a wealthy Cattle Owner (and former Colonel) whose son is among the taken. He pairs up with Daniel Craig and a few other brave volunteers to help organize the rescue efforts.

Surprisingly, I really liked it (and enough to watch it twice!). The beginning is a tad slow for the kids, but once the alien mini invasion started their eyes were glued to the movie. Over all the characters were well written and defined, the acting was great and the special effects were realistic even in the old west setting. Somehow they managed to make it all work and create a story line that really keeps your attention and tugs at your heart. I would definitely recommend watching it :)

Kids Rating: 4 Stars

This would be a combined total- Noah would give is a 5 for all the Cowboys and Indians, Hud would probably give it a 3 or so because he wanted to see more Aliens.

Mommy Rating: 4 Stars

I really did like it and despite my initial assumptions I was really surprised. We are all Harrison Ford fans (Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc.) so that was a very good turnout :)

The last 80% of the movie kept the kids attention and for a PG-13 rating I really can't recall anything I winced at while the kids were watching it.

Rent it or Buy it...Definitely rent it first and it just may be a candidate for adding to our DVD library (or we could just wait for it to be streaming on Netflix).

Notes on Ratings:

We are a big moving family and with Adam and the Boys definitely lean more towards action, adventure and comedy. A 5 star movie for our family would be movies like Star Wars, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc. I personally base my ratings on entertainment and the amount of attention it keeps for the boys. Additionally a 5 star would be one that we can watch over and over and not get too tired of.

Praying For Adam {Continued Prayers}

Just a really quick post to ask for everyone to please continue praying for Adam. Physical therapy is progressing well- it just may take longer than Adam would like. We are praying for peace, strength, patience and continued determination. Adam has a great attitude and fighting spirit but misses home- we are all keeping our eye on the prize :) xoxo!

Praying for Adam {By The Grace of God}

I can't believe over a week has passed since we have been at Duke. It feels like months. Time passes slowly but that also allows for some peaceful reflection amid all the chaos of life right now. It seems like each day brought it's own unique challenges as well as huge victories. Through it all we had the constant loving support of family, friends (some who were able to be here with us and others who lifted us up and prayer and stayed updated online and through texts) and the unshakable peace of God.

Every day Adam makes unbelievable progress- and that's not an overstatement for me to just feel good inside. We hear the physical therapists talking amongst themselves at how much progress he is making everyday and what a wonderful spirit he has. Adam is not only determined to work hard at physical rehabilitation but also to treat everyone as he would like to be treated- his attitude is infectious. He is quickly becoming every one's favorite patient.

As I type this update, Adam is sleeping in a chair beside me and looking at him- so peaceful and rested- a much different image than only a week ago. We have been through so much, but I would honestly not change a thing because it has brought us face to face with God and shown us first hand his limitless power and mercy. It is only by the grace of God that I made it through this last week with a peace that as the verse says below transcends all understanding. That's not to say that I did not have my moments of weakness and fear, but thankfully I was surrounded by so many reminders of God's love and presence that those moments were short.

I can not thank everyone enough- all of you who prayed for us and cheered Adam on. Our friends, neighbors, family, strangers...my sisters, brothers, parents (direct and in-laws) all rallied around us and constantly were there for us. We have lived through the promise that all things work together for God's perfect plan and will keep that promise in our hearts with each step that Adam makes through recovery and in our everyday life in general.

Mommy Mondays {Still at Duke}

This one will be a quick one, I am saving up for tomorrow's post for Adam. We are all doing well and it has been an unbelievable relief to have the kids here. Not having planned on being here this long it was a bit of a shock to actually realize amidst all the craziness going on how much I didn't realize I missed their hugs and kisses- and they missed and needed mine.

It's amazing the rejuvenation of energy and strength that is contained in their hugs, kisses and smiles!

Jesus Calling

Early on into our Journey into the world of brain tumors, gliomas and neurosurgery a very dear friend sent us the devotional, Jesus Calling. Somehow, each day have been exactly what we needed to read and what's even more amazing is that it is written in a tone as if Jesus himself is speaking directly to you.

Today's Dec. 12th devotion clearly put it..."I am taking care of you". That's what I need to get through the day.

Supported by the familiar readings of Romans 8:28, Job 42:1-3, and 1 Peter 5:7 and 2 Corinthians 5:7

Romans 8:28

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Job 42:1-3
Then Job replied to the LORD:
“I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.
You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?’
Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.

Praying For Adam {Welcome to Duke}

Reflecting on the long day we had ad Duke. The simple description can be summed up easily with just a few well know words...welcomed like family! Each and every staff we encountered not only loved their job (we could see it on their face) but were all genuinely interested in Adam and how he came to be at Duke and what would be happening over the next few days.

We were even more blessed when we met Del and his wife Kate at admissions and quickly found out that Del was going to be having a similar procedure with Dr. Friedman and was scheduled right before Adam on Monday morning.

We closed the night with a late night buzz cut for Del, who was very grateful that Jeremy just happened to have his trimmer with him (alas....SWAT is always prepared for anything!)

We continue to me amazed and humbled throughout this journey and are ever so thankful for the nice surprises and blessings along the way like Del and his family- whose faith, like ours has forever been infused with even more purpose than we ever thought we were capable of our selves...but really, it's not our strength...but HIS!!!

xoxo and we appreciate all the prayers and notes of love that continually comes our way- please include Del in your thoughts as well when you think and pray for Adam tomorrow. Del's day will start at 6am with an MRI followed by surgery and Adam's will start at 7am with an MRI followed by surgery after Dr. Friedman has completed Del's surgery.

ps... the little globes all over their heads will be used kind of like a sophisticated GPS brain mapping system for the doctors while they are in surgery...very cool!

Praying for Adam {We are Ready}

We have arrived. Adam is all settled in watching football and very excited about his new iv (not!). At least we enjoyed a nice sushi lunch in the cafeteria before all the real hospital stuff began. I can not say how thankful I am that this moment has finally come but with that the anxiety over the next hours and days will definitely keep the butterflies very busy in my stomach.

We have an a army of support full of faithful prayer warriors at our side and led by none other than God himself with his had upon us as we continue to march forward.

Tomorrow morning will begin with an MRI at 7am and surgery is expected to approximately begin between 11-12ish. The average length of surgery is between 3-4 hours and once it is over Adam will recover in ICU overnight.

Jeremy arrived this afternoon with combat boots, his camping gear and a stash of twizzlers, chocolate and diet coke. Adam and him have kicked me out and decided I have to go back to the hotel for the best night's sleep and Jer will stay with Adam. The icing on the cake though was the special dinner Jeremy arranged with a bag of all Adam's faves from The Outback- steak, cheese fries, salad and bread :)

In all, we are doing well and love the staff here. We are really looking forward to tomorrow and then for the real healing to begin! Much love to you all and we will definitely keep the updates coming as quickly and consistently as possible.

Mommy Mondays {Surgery Scheduled}

It's been a few weeks since our last update for Adam and there's been so much that has been going on- Thanksgiving was wonderful and a nice break out of the normal day to day reality. Christmas lights shine bright outside, the tree is up and stockings hang on the mantle. Now we stand just one week out from Adam's surgery at Duke.

After speaking to 5 neurosurgeons, 3 of the 5 had the confidence in surgery. Adam has decided to go to Duke and have the surgery on December 12th. We will arrive early for all the pre-op procedures and most likely be there the remainder of the week. The overall recovery time is estimated between 6-8 weeks. So hopefully we will have a very relaxing Christmas and New Years.

We are so thankful for the constant encouragement and peace God lays on our hearts and sends our way through family and friends. Looking back through the stages of fear, overwhelming emotion, and the bitter education on something that I wished with every part of me was not a part of our lives I see all along God's gentle hand leading us to hope.

Despite the thousands of surgeon options around the nation one had always stuck out to us and from day one impressed Adam and I with their response time, kindness, commitment and compassion. Through appointments and even our week away for surgery lining up care for the kids has been easy, with so many willing and eager to help in any way. Each day was like a roller coaster of emotions- some good days, some bad days. And without fail it seemed the bad days were limited to only a few frail hours of worry and fear because God would find a way through our devotions, bible verses, a note from a friend or text from family to remind us that He IS with us. It's so humbling to feel so powerless in the eye of the storm but so unbelievably peaceful when we remind ourselves who is carrying us through.

Here's just a few verses from our ever growing collection that I have found constant relief from. Over these past few months I have truly learned the powerful meaning behind the declaration of Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." Purely and simply because it IS NOT by my own strength.

Maria & Brian's New York Wedding

It has always been Maria's dream to get married at her Catholic Church. On Friday, November 25th her dream came true as she walked down the aisle in her sassy red shoes. Surrounded by family and friends Brian and Maria exchanged their vows and joined their families. One of the most touching moments of the ceremony was the blessing of the new couple- not only by the Priest as a representative of the Church but also a tender blessing from the attending guests of the wedding.

Following the Ceremony, the celebration continued at The Fox Run Golf Club and included a very special appearance and live performance of an extremely unique representation of The Village People!

Mommy Mondays {Everyday}

This week as we celebrate Thanksgiving and finally take some time away from all the "to-do" lists of work, home and little projects I thought that today's post could focus on some of the everyday blessings that fly by in a blur as we are on our mission of crossing the next thing off the list. It really is stunning how time seems to pass by way too fast when we do finally stop just for a brief second to take it all in.

My wonderful friend Shain took these photos when he visited us and I am so thankful! It's these everyday moments that really mean the most and encompasses pretty much everything that we work for!

Christine & Jason's {Breathtaking} Savannah Wedding

I am beyond excited to share this post with you for so many reasons, but the biggest is that below there is soooooo much more beautiful details of Christine and Jason's gorgeous Savannah wedding!!!

Set in Monroe Square, the weather could not have been more perfect! The trees formed a delicate canopy over the ceremony as Jason's father led them in their vows. The unity sand ceremony uniquely took place mid ceremony which displayed such a precious moment for the parents that clearly communicated Christine and Jason's love and respect for them. With a coin from Ireland and her grandmother's memorial cross pinned to her bouquet it was certainly more than good Irish luck that has blessed this special day for this sweet, sweet couple!

Complete with a horse drawn carriage, the newlyweds made their way through the historic streets to an equally historic local favorite, Vic's on the River. Guests also enjoyed the scenic route to the reception and arrived by trolley. With no southern detail overlooked the stage was set as the beaming couple took to the dance floor amidst cheering applause from their friends and family who had all traveled in for their very special destination wedding!

The rustic yet extremely elegant setting of Vic's and the beautiful views of the bay continued the tone of simple southern romance. And if that was not enough the soft buttery biscuits with orange marmalade, shrimp and grits, soulful live acoustics and song reeled you right into the old south (and kept you there!)

Following the reception, a string of sun-laced bubbles led way to an awaiting rickshaw complete with a top hat driver to carry them on to one of Savannah's most romantic bed and breakfasts, The Gastonian.

After a delicious private reception at the Inn, we explored the surrounding gardens and then happily left the new Mr. and Mrs. to officially begin their honeymoon :)

Mommy Mondays {Inspiration}

This weekend we picked up the new Mercy Me album. From our days of youth summer camp with our church we have LOVED Mercy Me!!! Adam and I both count it one of our many blessings to have had the pleasure to sing praise and worship music along with the band so long before they found wonderful success sharing their gift or worship music. Those summers are still so fresh in my mind and are certainly some of my best memories!

One of their songs stands out amongst our many, may favorites and has become somewhat of an anthem for us, below are the lyrics and a link to their website. Thank you Mercy Me for following God's plan for your lives and trusting Him... this is such a spot on reminder of our purpose and source of strength!

The Longhorn's Last Game

What an honor and a privilege it was for me to photograph the Lanier High School's last football game of the 2011 season. As a former athlete myself, I know how bittersweet the senior year really is. What a milestone that will literally be frozen in time forever- no matter how many years go by- it will always seem like only yesterday!

Blessings from Strangers

It's amazing how much a few words can lift your spirits and be a wonderful reminder of the bigger picture. No matter how strong you are, how surrounded you are with love and support or how determined you are to remain positive and faithful at all costs there can be those tiny little dreadful thoughts and fears that creep in from time to time that if it were not for the perfect timing of God working through others may just claim victory for the most brief of moments.

I've had those moments, sometimes even several times a day. But somehow every single time without fail God finds a way to lay his hand on my heart through the kids, friends, family, neighbors and even perfect strangers! Over the last several days we have consistently received cards from across U.S. with prayers, encouragement and friendly words that make us smile.

Adam and I are both so humbled and thankful for everyone who has taken the time to reach out to us- in cards, emails, texts, phone calls, facebook and twitter. It's amazing how small the world has become with technology.

Thank you all- we love and appreciate you so very, very much- more than you may ever know!

Mommy Mondays {Good Scary Fun!}

This Monday was the close of an extraordinary week of fun. Hudson's birthday is in October, so it's quite the month of celebration. With a late October birthday, we really love getting to tie in some good ol' scary fun in with his birthday parties. This year the monster eyeball cupcakes were a pretty big hit (with the kids and me...because they were really super easy to make!)

This year we were in a new neighborhood but decided to hit the streets with my big sis, her kiddos and a few other parents and kids in her old neighborhood that had become quite a tradition- So, with 2 pirates, a soldier, batgirl and a pink lady we were off!

After burning some energy at the neighborhood Halloween bash, we headed back to a friends house for some snacks before heading out for trick or treating.

Then....I don't know how it happened but all the Dad's took the lil' monsters door to door and let the Momma's have some time together catching up over some glasses of wine- as simple as that- no tricks, ha!!! Wowza what a GREAT ending to a fantastic Halloween :)

Baby Love {Aubree}

Mommy Mondays {Answered Prayers}

Today we are preparing for the next steps in our journey together for Adam's treatment. We have been researching and finding out more and more (so much more than I care to know) about brain tumors. Many of you have been praying along with us for strength and guidance and we thank you! We are continually receiving both :)

After our last appointment with the local neurosurgeon we sent out several copies of Adam's scans and doctors notes to neurosurgeons at Duke, Emory and MD Anderson. Even though Emory is the closest we did not want to rule out other plans God may have for us even if it meant traveling a bit- as long as it was a Doctor of His choosing.

This week we get to meet with the surgeons at Duke (and hopefully Emory soon after). and our local neurosurgeon is having a conference call with the surgeons from MD Anderson. So, there's a lot to be thankful for!

When we began research there was not a big clear sign or direction, just a sea of links, websites, hospital and surgeon reviews that spanned the whole United States and beyond. To have a clear path to three of the top surgeons who are all within the top one percent of their specialty fields (glioma brain tumors) is a huge answer to prayer and an even bigger reminder of who is ultimately in control.

Adam has a wonderfully strong feeling and peace already towards Duke so we are very, very excited to meet with them this week. Please continue to pray for Adam and God's guidance in the many decisions that will come as well as us finding the surgeon that He has for us.

In closing I would like to share a verse that a dear friend sent us that is a wonderful reminder for us everyday to find strength and encouragement in Him! Adam and I have both been so appreciative of the numerous words of encouragement that we receive daily from those who are thinking about and praying for us. Through texts, emails, messages, calls, comments and facebook it is clear that God is using so many of you to rally around us as an ever constant reminder of His love for us...He is with us in every step of the way!

2 Corinthians1:3-4 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

Oh how the tables were turned a couple weeks ago when our family was the one in front of the lens. I have to definitely thank our V-E-R-Y patient and awesome friend Shain for taking what little bit of time the kids gave him to capture some pictures of our family while he was visiting :) (Thank you Mr. Shain!!!)

There is not much else here on earth that brings me more joy than their smiling (and even sometimes pouty) little faces. Love became so much more than a simple word when those three very energetic sweethearts came into out lives....ahhhh, so thankful!

Praying For Adam {The Next Steps}

Today we had our consultation with the Neurosurgeon and though we did not receive a complete comprehensive plan to proceed we certainly are learning more than we ever imagined (or ever cared to know) about the glioma family of brain tumors.

I thought that everyone would like to hear a little bit from Adam himself on this so, here it is straight from the source :)

As you all know Sunday Sept 25th I had a seizure. Proper procedure for a first time seizure is to run tests (MRI and CTscan)...both which revealed a low-grade mass on the right side of my brain which is called a glioma tumor. I had a follow up appt today and below is what we discussed.

I spoke with the neurologist today and right off the bat he referred me to Duke University Medical Center or MD Anderson (Houston, TX) as they have the top rated Glioma Tumor specialist.
(and Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.)

A little background on the type of tumor I have…

These types of tumors originate from glial cells in the brain (which begin to grow abnormally). We looked at the scans and although it is low-grade it looks pretty big in size (in my opinion) 6.3 cm. There were two shades in the scans which makes doing a successful biopsy to get a read difficult. Since these originate from glial cells sometimes even when a biopsy is taken it may not get the right tissue which could be difficult to reveal cancer vs. non cancer. However, cancerous vs. non-cancer didn’t seem to be his main concern (which I take as a good sign) as glioma tumors are not necessarily defined in that category from the beginning. But that’s not to say it isn’t cancerous, so I still want to do a biopsy once I consult with the other specialist and get their take on the treatment plans.

Couple things, it has been there for a while (he stated years, although he cannot pinpoint exactly how long…his guess 2-4?). The fact that it is low-grade is positive and it doesn’t seem to be intensifying, being on the right side is good as well. However I will eventually be faced with two options in his opinion depending on how aggressive both the doctors and I want to be.

Option 1. Surgery to remove...Surgery has several risks (1) remove the tumor, but there’s a possibility due to the size and the fact it originates from a glial cell there is a chance that after surgery it won’t all be removed (2) it could possibility come back over time (3) It could possibly affect my speech, motor skills and movement on the left side of my body which in turn affect my overall quality of life. (4) Its completely removed.

Option 2. Leave and monitor over time. The fact that I feel normal and haven’t experienced any effects other than the recent seizure is a good sign since I’ve been living with it for some time now. Question is how long before it intensifies and could turn to high-grade which has far worse implications.

We asked what is the timing of this type of tumor until it could possibly intensify…he mentioned on average 7 years. This doesn’t mean I only live for 7 years it means the time frame the glioma intensifies. The questions lies with where am I in this time frame from it going from low-grade to possibly high grade which has much more serious effects? This is hard to answer as we don’t exactly know how long it’s been there.

If I have surgery and the risk far our weigh the rewards then I could be faced with a decreased quality of life that could affect work and my everyday life and family. Whereas if we monitor over time there is a chance I could go who knows how long with the normal quality of life I am currently living. I asked him straight up what would he do in my situation and he responded, “At this age, I am the sole provider for my family, the risks of surgery and my ability to provide for them is important…I would take monitor approach”. I understand where he is coming from, as no matter what is happening to me, my family is more important and what I can do for them in the meantime. I could go another 10 years w/o complications or minor complications. Making sure my wife and kids are being taken care of is extremely important however my own health is as well. But as I mentioned surgery can have implications…then on the other hand surgery could solve the issue. It would be nice to know what I’m looking at in terms of which fork in the road I take…If I go one direction will it inevitably lead me to the same direction as the other choice?

But those are some things that will be answered with my next opinions and recommendations with the other doctors, so for know the next steps are sending my scans to MD Anderson, Duke University Medical Center & Emory University Hospital. They highly recommended Duke. So once I hear back from them I’ll get a better idea on what I’m looking at as far as treatment and where I should go. The best treatment I can receive in the meantime is your prayers and positive thoughts, because it’s out of my hands as well as the doctors. One way or the other the greatest doctor known to man will make sure I receive the proper treatment and that’s the Lord Almighty!

I’ll continue to keep everyone posted. As I said I feel normal and fine, which I know to some of you isn’t really normal :P

Mommy Mondays {Walk By Faith}

I have been over and over in my head about writing this (...or not) and finally decided that it needs to be shared. Many of you may already know, many more are praying and hopefully many more will join us in praying. I apologize in advance for the extremely long post...

Any one who knows me knows one thing- I am an eternal optimist. But recently my perfect little world was shattered, blown to bits, more like a huge atomic bomb went off (and I was left walking through the smokey mess)...but at least I was walking!

Two Sundays ago I woke up to my husband, Adam, having (what I consider) a violent seizure and called 911. I was a mess. On one hand I had the 911 operator on speaker phone and frantically dialed my sister's cell phone in the other. I honestly do not know how much sense I was making- it was a blur and I described everything in broken fragments between sobbing as best I could- stroke was the only thing that came to my mind and all it's devastating results. Only by the grace of God was I able to calmly communicate with the kids that Daddy would be alright and to go in the playroom (and thank God they did without any question or hesitation).

Though I tried my best to catch Adam's attention or to calm him down, I was helpless until the seizure ended and he just rolled over and went into a deep sleep. I met the EMT at the door and took them upstairs. Thank goodness he woke up, though clearly confused it was the first time since the seizure he had clearly had control of his body. Then a new fear consumed me when they asked him how old he was... "I don't know" - followed by another wrong answer as to what day was it..."Tuesday?" he said. I could almost hear the angels singing though when the third question came- What year is it... I held my breath until he answered and then breathed the biggest sigh of relief when I heard it, "2011".

I had to wait for my sister (April) to arrive to take care of the kids so Adam went on with the ambulance. Later, I would find out that he did not remember a thing about Sunday morning except for waking up in the ambulance. I rode to the hospital with my brother in law (Ronald) and by the time we reached the ER we (non-doctors) had already diagnosed him with dehydration- phew, what a relief! This was an easy assumption because the entire night before Adam and the boys were all up pretty much every hour on the hour throwing up. We go through this virus at least once a year so it was pretty much just going through the motions until it ran it's course...but seizures had never been part of it's course.

It took everything I had not to suffocate Adam from one big endless hug when we walked into his room to see him smiling in a hospital gown. Slowly, I began thinking "thank goodness the worst is over" as they hooked him up to his second bag of IV fluids. A few minutes passed and they came to roll him back for a routine CTscan for seizure patients. Ronald and I talked more about the dehydration and how nice that was all it was. He explained more to me about seizures (from growing up with his Dad who had epilepsy).

It didn't seem like too much time passed before they were wheeling him back in. Ronald had stepped out to call my sister and get a plan together because she had decided that no matter what she was not going to let me stay up there by myself. We laughed at how Ronald was pumping himself up to go look after a brood of 5 kids (theirs + ours). About that time the ER doctor came back and updated us on everything that had been going on but had more information that pretty much not only caught us all off guard, left us completely speechless. It only took the few words of "we found what appears to be a mass on your brain" to send my fears spiraling again but I some how managed (in the very loose definition of the words) to maintain some composure. The next step would be an MRI on the recommendation of the neurosurgeon that had already looked over Adam's CTscan remotely. I was impressed with the speed and flow of information and how quickly the staff reacted and cared for Adam.

April arrived and Ronald headed home with all the kids by the time the nurses came to take Adam back for the MRI. As she wrote down phone numbers and names to call I just had to take a walk in the hallway and found a momentary escape around the corner in a small bathroom. Only for a moment I allowed myself to let go and cry, cry louder and then cry more. Knowing that more tears would come I did the best I could to wash up and prayed with all my heart. I walked back in the room to give Adam a hug and a kiss.

While Adam was in the MRI, April and I took a walk to the general waiting room. While she called, I texted (I just could not talk without breaking into tears again). I texted updates and could feel the prayers of everyone who was already praying for us. I remember just telling myself, we are in God's hands over and over again.

We were already in the room when they brought Adam back. The medication that they had given him to help prevent any further seizures was already settling in as his memory of earlier conversations became a little fuzzy. Though the one thing he could remember clearly was that he had a mass on his brain. Again, time passed quickly and it seemed like in no time the ER doctor was back to share the results of the MRI. He had already conferred with the neurosurgeon who again viewed the scans remotely and confirmed to us what they labeled as a low grade mass. We held on to every word- clinging to the positives "low grade", "front right of brain", "small", etc. We were informed that Adam would be admitted overnight and the neurosurgeon would be around to see us soon and discuss a little more.

That is where time slowed down. The minutes on the clock seemed not to progress much at all. In my mind, we were moving in slow motion- almost frozen in time. I was relieved that Adam found distraction by watching the Giants game on TV and checking his fantasy football team. That let me know that he was ok- frustrated a bit and yelling at the players on the TV, but to me that was peaceful.

By the time the neurosurgeon came I think we had both had all the news we could stand for the day. It seemed like I had been through every emotion humanly possible and I was exhausted. We both listened to the semi-scientific explanations. I was impressed with the doctor's patience with our questions and his calm voice. Again, I hung on to every positive word and let the others go in one ear and out the other...low grade, small, right side...followed by the information that I know God just needed us to hear- "it appears to have been there for a while and not a result of the seizure, the brain is not negatively reacting to it". In a summery he told us that we were in a very positive situation having discovered it in this manner and that there was no emergency action needed so scans and medications can be used to figure out what the next steps would be.

When we settled in Adam's new room in the tower (with a much bigger TV for watching football!) I started to google the term that the neurosurgeon had used but I could not remember it exactly so I typed what I could remember... it sounded like glaucoma (but of course I knew that was not it). So I typed in the search "brain gl"... and glioma quickly filled in the rest. I clicked one of the top links and got as far as a definition of "A glioma is a type of tumor..." then I closed the browser. I had enough for one day and was just going to let that sink in and hold onto all the positive information that we had received as long as I could.

I spent the night with Adam just so I could hear him breathing, the same as I did with all our children when they were newborns, I knew that if I just heard them breathing or wiggling around that they were ok. The next day went pretty quickly with the routine shift changes, blood drawing, medication and meal deliveries. Adam was in great spirits, felt normal and was ready to go home. We made it through the day with the stash of chocolate and snacks that Farise had brought us the day before and a nice morning Starbucks that April had brought us. I really do not know how the hours would have went without the thoughts, prayers and support of our family and friends- I am literally astounded and humbled at the amount of love they have for us. Though clearly not his favorite arrangement, that afternoon I drove us home (he can not drive for six months) and we have been adjusting to our new life ever since.

As a long story comes to a close, we are just beginning on a new journey for our family that while at first was extremely frightening we now appreciate our life and our family at an extremely different level. For that and so many other things I am thankful. When things like this happens you find yourself thinking about the worst possible scenarios- but we are glad that those fears have been replaced with hope for the future and appreciation for the present. Time spent together is so much more important now, even if it's just watching Monday night football together. The little things that may have caused an argument suddenly are not worth the time we give them to interrupt our day. Playing catch with the kids, a sweet kiss on the cheek, even washing the dishes I treasure each and every moment.

We have always been aware and acknowledged God's plan for our lives- we met in middle school, began dating in high school, married after college, started a family, started a business, moved into our first house and so much more with our fate in God's hands. So we will not take a step further without the same blind faith that we have always had. We are both extremely thankful for everything God has blessed us with and know without a shadow of a doubt He has a wonderful plan for us!

Jennifer & Michael's Amelia Island Wedding

From the moment we first met Jennifer and Michael had me laughing and I completely fell in love with their personality. It does not take long to figure out that Michael is a jokester (and a quite good one I might add). There was no question that the overall theme for their wedding celebration at the beautiful Golf Club of Amelia was Relax, Celebrate, and have F-U-N!!!

To kick of the day (and to take advantage of the beautiful setting) we met on the beach of their family beach house at Summer Beach). Right away their energy was infectious and everyone was having a fabulous time! Not even an hour into shooting I could already feel the muscles in my face from smiling so much- ha!

As more and more brides and grooms take on new traditions of the first look (meeting prior to the ceremony) I love seeing how each couple puts their own special touch on it. In Jennifer and Michaels case, their first look was on the beach followed by formals with their family- then... a pre-ceremony reception!!! Ahhh, guests just loved it and it really set the tone for the rest of the evening.

To say the ceremony was gorgeous would be a tremendous understatement- set beneath century old oaks whose limbs provided a lovely winding frame around Jennifer and Michael. Guests were shaded by branches that seemed to never end and the soft breezes came right on cue as the bagpipes began to play.

Perhaps I saved the best for last (and definitely the most memorable). When it came time to "kiss the bride" Jennifer had planned what she thought was the perfect moment to beat Michael at his own game. As he leaned in for the kiss, she held up her hand to pause and take out some breathe spray for him from the bust of her dress...Ahhh ha, she finally had him...for a brief second at least!

Michael is as quick as he is funny and quickly pulled his own breath spray from his coat pocket for Jennifer- Oh, we were all rolling with side splitting laughter! What a way to end a ceremony! And it did not stop there- from that moment on the celebration was in full party mode and let me just say, AMAZING!

In honor of Michael and Jennifer's love for fun and devotion to ensure their friends and family had an unforgettable evening I put together a few images to highlight the reception extravaganza (and believe me this is really just the tip of the iceberg).

I am the first to say that I am blessed to be able to do what I absolutely love, but the couples and families that I meet along the way just continue to blow me away- Jennifer and Michael are no exception!!! Congratulations to you both and thank you for choosing me to be such a special part of your big day together and for treating me as family- love you both very much!!!! xoxo :)

Located right next door to The Ritz on Ameila Island, I really like the simple natural setting and the canopy of trees that surrounds the club. It's perfect for the flexibility of an indoor or outdoor event. The size of event space is perfect for small and medium sized events and the staff is super friendly and extremely helpful. When we needed a golf ball for the bride and groom the wait staff was quick to hand us a couple of balls right away! The food is always delicious and elegantly displayed. Definitely one of my favorite venues to work with- the client is clearly their number one focus and that's how we like it!

Mommy Mondays {The New Shopping List}

So the last couple of weeks have been completely outside my comfort zone. As a sort of unwritten personal rule only certain areas of my life (aka the "business" side) are super organized and planned out as best as possible to be the most efficient. In the past, I have pretty much been somewhat of a free spirit when it came to home life- I figured I would just shut off the organization switch and reeeeeelax a bit :)

Then one day a thought came (well, I really did not have too much of a choice, ha!) With two different school schedules, travel schedules, shoots, weddings, appointments, location scouting, AND fall baseball season with an extra special bonus of the boys being on different teams this year (yippee!) our calendar looks like someone went at it with some sort of automatic weapon- obliterating multiple days at a time with one easy sweep (and many times right down to the minute).

So, as a result I am in hyper home organization mode and honestly having a lot of fun with it! It was a pretty simple start with a weekly menu, then expanded into a family binder, now I have discovered the art of strategically coordinating coupons with our grocery lists and weekly sales. By no means will I put in the hours to get $100 worth of groceries for $2 but will easily add $10-$15 of savings to each shopping trips- and all with just a few clicks of the mouse (and Google!)

Red Plum : Same company that does the Sunday Paper inserts

Frugal Coupon Living : This site actually has tied the weekly ads of local area stores with links to printable coupons- they have pretty much done all the work!

Shopping Tips & Tricks : Great site for simple fast info and even has it grocery store specific to weekly ads for Publix, Kroger and Mijer!

There are a ton of sites out there but I preferred the ones that you did not have to enter all your info or sign up just to have access to the coupons- if you have some favorites please do share!

Less is More

This post has been a long time in the making and I have to say I am literally overjoyed as my fingers type out the news...I am over the moon excited to announce that you will be seeing less of me!!!

Yep, that's right and it could not have come at a better time in my life.

Ok, so here are the details...

This is my year- THE year! The year that I turn the big 3-0 (gasp!) It had been looming for months and a constant reminder to me. I just could not get it out of my head. How in the world did it get here so fast and how was I going to catch up with all that I wanted to have accomplished by this point??? So January rolled around and I finally made the decision, I was going to do it and I was not going to take no for an answer...I made the commitment to myself to loose 30 lbs. The rational was pretty simple celebrate 30 years by loosing 30 lbs :)

But I did not tell anyone because I figured if I did not actually say it out loud that it wouldn't be so bad if I could not reach it. I had so much doubt in myself that I needed to leave some wiggle room and "an out". But I was determined...the breaking point was a few months earlier when I saw a picture of myself that a friend of mine took while I was on a shoot in the Bahamas- I was disgusted with the way I looked and almost did not recognize myself!

I wanted to delete it right away but instead I used it as motivation. I started off pretty good managing my schedule with regular exercise on the elliptical every day for 15-20 minutes, watched what I ate and drank more water than I ever had in my life. I did that for nearly six weeks and was down 10 lbs! But then wedding season kicked in- traveling, juggling shoots, editing, meetings, kids and hubby's schedule and the exercise was the first thing to go or get knocked down to the bottom of the list. To top it all off I went on a cruise and upon returning had gained back 4lbs...bummer!!! At that point 3olbs. might as well have been 100 because it seemed so far off and unrealistic.

But, then I met Vanessa :)

She is a physical therapist that went from a size 10 to a size 4 so she had my attention. She had done the Body by Vi Challenge so I listened to the options and the details. I had heard about it for over a year prior to meeting her and to say that I was a little skeptical would be an immense understatement. Nothing is truly that easy...but after seeing her pictures and hearing about the program I figured it made sense and decided to give it a try. Two shakes a day replace 2 meals for 90 days...

I started in April and I have to say I have never eaten healthier in my life. Today I weighed in at an overall 25 lb. loss for the year and 19 of that is directly a result of the Body by Vi Challenge. I have one more month to go and am very confident that I will end my challenge pretty darn close if not at my goal of 30 lbs.

So, yes- you will be seeing less of me and I couldn't be more proud!!!

Mommy Mondays {What's For Dinner}

It's really hard to find the right words to start out this week's post for Mommy Mondays so I am just going to dive right in and say it...Aggghhhhh!!!!

Before school started I had these preconceived notions of quiet days at home getting tons and TONS of work done (both around the house and for the business) and well, that just has not been the case at all- so what gives???

From the new morning routine, the car line, traffic, back home, cleaning, breakfast, tending to baby girl, checking email, editing, following up with brides, working on new marketing campaigns, laundry, dishes, squeezing in a workout, phone calls, more emails, blog posts, story time, diaper changes, album designs etc...and that's just the first half of the day- phew...by early afternoon I was on auto pilot but without actually making any headway or progress on my to do list, much less keeping up with the kiddos PTA meetings and TBall practices and then the question comes...what's for dinner (uh-oh!)...

So today Adam and I sat down and created a weekly menu- yes, VICTORY!!! After searching online for a simple template I decided to make my own and am so proud of how it turned out. A small win for today, oh but what a fantastic start to the week!

Tomorrow I will tackle the "Brain" binder (details to come on that fun project) and the ever changing family schedule as TBall season kicks off, Early Holiday Sessions begin to book and Special Fall projects take us on the road....whoo- hooo, it's never a dull moment and though at times it may seem like life is a bit of a whirlwind I am so thankful for each and every moment :)

Mommy Mondays {Organized Chaos}

Well, the boys are back in school which means more time for those little projects around the house (yaaaay!!!). With almost a full month in the new house without traveling this is actually something I have been looking forward to. Today the main focus is going to be organizing the play room closet with a new storage and game shelf (and getting rid of those moving boxes!). I am beyond excited to get all their books and games organized in a way that they can easily clean them up themselves (yes, it is possible and they actually do pretty well).

Tomorrow I will share the after "taaaa-daaaaa" with you :)

Sneak Peek {Michelle + Travis}

It doesn't seem like that long ago Michelle and Travis were zooming through the streets of Atlantic Beach on their bicycles. Now they are husband and wife and are on a completely new journey together that I am so excited to see! Together they are quite a team; sweet, thoughtful, giving, creative and FUN!!!

Over the last month or so we have been preparing for back to school and today we spent the most part preparing for Hudson's first day of Kindergarten (insert tears here...)

We have checked off his school supplies, visited the school, picked out his new shoes and back to school clothes, thoroughly researched the most durable backpack (LL Bean took it hands down) and tomorrow is open house...ahhhh, where did the summer go and why does it seem like only yesterday we were bringing him home from the hospital.

So this week is a mixture of emotions- happy, sad, proud and soooo very, very thankful for a bright, loving and energetic kindergartner that has been just a blessing and a joy!

Mommy Mondays {Things I Love}

As summer begins to wind to an end and we attempt to squeeze in every bit of vacation we can get around the weddings and sessions it's those short day trips or mini get-aways that become so precious.

This week I wanted to share with you one of my favorite things about growing up in a small town and going back for visits. Besides the friendly hello's you would get almost anywhere you went and short distances to the grocery store or gas station...the local favorite little restaurant that is worth waiting in line for- yep, we had one and it's worth a trip to try it out- TRUST me :)

Known locally as "The Chicken House" but officially as Callahan BBQ this was and is THE place to be and is always packed at lunch. Simple southern BBQ and the fact that every item is made fresh is the staple of it's goodness. Not to mention a small town tradition and a wonderful family that has owned it for years...well, and they serve corn dogs (Noah's favorite).

Hands down the BEST fried chicken sandwich anywhere! I love errands that take me back through, somehow it usually always ends up being around lunch time (ha!) All I can say is yummy, hope you are able to enjoy it one of these days :)

It's perfect for those everyday moments that are precious keepsakes that is pretty much the only way that I am going to be able to "freeze" the kids' childhood...even just for a brief moment.I struggled for a long time with feeling like I was missing so much with the kids because I was not lugging my huge professional camera around with us (and I really do not like point and shoots). So I thank God for the iPhone and Instagram :)

Mommy Mondays {Things I Love}

Every now and then there is a product that makes our lives just a little easier and I thought I would share some of mine with you...so first off, it's The Bottle Snuggler so here we go :)

This week as I chase Micheli everywhere and adjust to her now as an official walking toddler (who is perfecting her running skills as well I might add!) I have been reflecting on those days that we carried her everywhere and she was not quite so mobile. Ahhhh, those were the days...

I feel like she is moving so quickly from our "little baby" to becoming a big girl (waaaay too fast!) ...feeding herself, sippy cups, using forks and spoons, etc.

After my momentary depression from all the "progress" I starting thinking about what along the way helped her become so independent so fast and above all else one unique, creative and ingenuous product came to mind...

Bottle Snugglers!

Not only is it an amazing product to help when feeding our sweet little girl, but it's also owned by another wonderful Mommy so she knows a thing or two about needing an extra hand sometimes, ha!

I could edit pictures, check email and make my notorious to do lists and even read a book or magazine!!! All while feeding her because I had full use of one if not both hands at times. Micheli learned how to hold the bottle herself so much earlier than the boys and I know this had a huge influence on that.

And I was not the only one to enjoy the extra help...Daddy, Hudson and Noah all used it to help feed her and especially with the boys it kept the bottle in place even if they moved or forgot to keep the bottle up for her. It was also a life saver for those long trips because we could feed her in the car without getting arm cramps :)

I absolutely LOVE this product and have to thank Jennifer Marko & the Bottle Snuggler team for making it available to all us busy mommies!!!

Sneak Peek {Kali & Brandon}

I'll just go ahead and admit it- this is an extended sneak peek, but I am sure you won't mind the extra images to enjoy from Kali and Brandon's big day :)There were just too many sweet moments and little details to choose from so I did my best but the sneak peek turned into a mini real weddings post, ha!It was as every bride dreams- picture perfect late afternoon with beautiful warm buttery light (swoon!)

Kali and Brandon were all smiles and even some giggles from time to time. She was soooo excited to walk down the aisle :)
I love, LOVE this image of their sweet little daughter looking on as they said their vows and shared their first kiss together...Following the ceremony the new Mr. and Mrs. led their guests down to the shore to toss blessing stones into the ocean with well wishes and celebration (more on that coming soon!)

Mommy Mondays {Tips & Tricks}

Today I am excited to add Tips and Tricks to Mommy Mondays!

Pretty much every mom and dad know the key to sane survival is efficiency, a good sense of humor, google research, a lot of patience and today toothpaste tops the list as well ;)

Today I took on the task of deep cleaning the kitchen. And I mean DEEP CLEAN...dusted all accessories, cleared and cleansed granite counter tops, even emptied the crumb tray and polished the toaster!!! My biggest challenge of the day is what inspired today's post...mystery marks on the cabinets and drawers...

I may never really get the full story but the fact is that there was red gook all over the cabinets in front of the sink and the drawers by the refrigerator. Though Noah admitted and advised me that it was marker from when he was a baby (ha, yeah it was so long ago at the ripe old age of 4!), there is a possibility that it is simply from a stool that the kids have used for years that is painted red on the top.

After scrubbing with hot soapy water and clorox cleaning spray I went to the save all stain/marker remover...toothpaste. And after a few minutes it scrubbed right off (thankfully).

So, there it is...the tip of the day is when in doubt use toothpaste to get it out :)

(well, after you google it and make sure you are not going to ruin anything- ha!)

BONUS TIP: Toothpaste will also clean silver jewelry and accent pieces and help remove redness on skin blemishes in a pinch (a little dab overnight will do it). I have found that it's best to use the white versions and not the blue gels.

Mommy Mondays {Baby Steps}

I honestly cannot think of a better post for this week's Mommy Mondays than to share the wonderful and exciting news that Micheli has not only taken her first steps but she is now walking with confidence!

Watching the process has been so fun for our family- holding her hand to help her practice, encouraging the smallest advances and then finally being filled with pure delight when she let go of her safety net and took those first few little wobbly steps one after another. I think the highlight had to be when she reached where she was going and started clapping!

Seeing her accomplish what has been months of practice is such an inspiration! We all have something that we are working hard to achieve in some form or another. And though it make take millions of tiny baby steps, when we surround ourselves with encourager's and positive reinforcement we become equipped with the tools for success and have loved ones there to celebrate the victory.

So today, I wish you a happy Monday and hopefully Micheli can help be that little nudge that you may have needed to take the first step and just keep on walking :)

It Keeps Getting Easier!

No, I have not finally discovered the secret to life, a fool proof remedy for putting an end to sibling arguments or a way to get more hours in a day (though I will not give up on that one, ha!)

Mommy Mondays {Taxi Service}

Today started at 6:00am and on the road by 6:30- Rise and Shine :)

I am seriously considering a nice neon for the top of the truck with a flashing "taxi" light, ha! First it's off to Fernandina to drop off my nephew at school, then Downtown for Hudson, swing back to the house to pick up Noah and Micheli for our play date at the zoo splash park, Picnic lunch on the go and then back Downtown, jump over to the Westside, then back to Fernandina and finally home for a much overdue visit with one of my best friends since 6th grade and then enjoying a lovely dinner with another dear old friend (thank goodness Adam cooked!)... Wow, my head is spinning just typing it, ha!

But overall, this is the flexibility that I love and really cherish the extra time we and the boys get to spend with our friends and with my nephew. What a wonderful day to start off the week :)

Other than feeling like I was part of the Mom's Grand Prix, I don't have too long of a to-do list today...the dishes, laundry, grocery store and other errands will overflow to Tuesday, he he ;)

Mommy Mondays {A Family Salute}

So today will be short and sweet but I promise it will be worth it :)

Besides today being a wonderful extra day to spend with family because everyone is off it's also extra special to our family because we LOVE our service men and women and are sooooo thankful for their bravery and dedication. To those who have served many many generations ago to the ones on the front lines today all across the globe, we salute you!!!

Adam and I are both from military families- his Dad served in the Navy and is a Gulf War Veteran, My Grandfather (pictured above) served in WWII. To all the families who have loved ones that have and are serving, THANK YOU as well for your love, support and sacrifice!!!

Mommy Mondays {Operation Recovery}

Ahhh, there's no place like home and I don't think anything is more true than that when you get back from a wonderful weekend away. Today we are decompressing from 3 fun filled, hot, hot, HOT days experience that is known as "Star Wars Weekends" at Disney!

The kids (and us, too!) had a great time! In the big scheme of things the boys behaved wonderfully (besides Noah's ice cream debacle that completed blew away any other fit on the face of the earth...ever!) and were awe struck with the storm/clone troopers and all the other Star Wars characters :)

Below is now one of my all time favorite pics of No No...it just fits him soooo perfectly (especially with his sweet little smile to go along with Grumpy)

Hudson has even been brushing up on his Darth Vader since coming home, the force is strong in this one, ha (sorry, couldn't resist!)

...and I just had to share this one last one of baby girl...she is so joyous and happy! This is how we find her pretty much every day after her nap- playing, giggling, waiting patiently for Mommy or Daddy to come sweep her up and shower her with hugs and kisses- We are soooo blessed and very thankful!

Engaged {Lyndsie + Jeremy}

The more time I spend with Lyndsie and Jeremy the more they remind me so much of Adam and I...young, head over heels in love, a solid plan for the future and complete faith that puts everything in God's hands.

For their session our goal was simple- for Jeremy and Lyndsie to take time to enjoy just being together and of course, have fun :)
If there is one thing that I love, LOVE about a couple it's seeing them laugh together! This is so reassuring and encouraging in every relationship because even though we want the perfect "Happily Ever After"...The reality is that it doesn't come without a lot of work and a huge sense of humor. Then, of course we spiced it up a bit :)

Lyndsie worked that sweet little sass as Jeremy sat back and took a good look at his gorgeous bride to be.

Baby Love

Time has a way of catching up with us. One day our little ones are teeny tiny babies we hold in our arms and then all of the sudden they are walking, talking, running away from us and using their favorite new word..."No!"

Cooper is a perfect reminder of how precious those brief moments are and how quickly our babies grow up.

I remember when his big brother was this small (and what a handsome little guy he is now, plus an excellent assistant by the way!)

Every newborn is like falling in love all over again, there truly are not words that could ever describe it. I absolutely love, love, LOVE all their sweet little toes, fingers and chubby cheeks!

These next couple images are very special. Mommy and Daddy both work in education, so I thought that they would love incorporating books into little Cooper's session. He was a champ and took a nice little cat nap (hummm, makes me wonder if the books had a hand in putting him to sleep- ha!)
And though it is pretty difficult to pick just one absolute favorite I think the last one captures his sweet personality, it has that smile that makes all mommy's hearts skip a beat :)

Mommy Mondays {This Crazy Life}

Today I officially begin the "Mommy Mondays" posts on the blog, yay!

This year I made a commitment to my family to take off on Mondays and so far so good. A free family weekend in the photography world is rare and cherished (but we definitely make the most of it when they do come along). Otherwise Monday is the "complete day off" for family, errands, house work, personal projects, etc.

I love it- even though I make my own schedule it is such a release to unplug from the editing, sessions and all that jazz to focus on what my #1 full time job is... being a mommy :)

So, with that- Happy Monday and for now one I'll be sharing what is in store for me, our family and other things that make up our crazy, blessed, fulfilling, simple, etc, etc, etc...life!

Real Weddings {Erin + Jamie}

I am still reeling from Erin and Jamie's beautiful and exquisite wedding this past weekend. Time after time I am floored by seeing first hand how completely in love couples are and these two are no exception. You can see it in their eyes, they way they make each other smile and all without a single word spoken.

We started out the day at the charming Casa Monica Hotel in St. Augustine, Florida. It was the perfect setting for Erin and the girls to relax and prepare for the big day. Erin was stunning in her custom made couture wedding dress, I don't think it could have been more perfect!I love how with each minute that moves closer to "it's time" a whirlwind of emotions and feelings come over everyone- from anticipation, silent moments, timeless smiles and then the first few steps towards a new future!

Set in the courtyard of the Lightner Museum the ceremony itself was stunning and perfect in every way imaginable.

And finally just a couple more sneak peeks at the quiet moments that Erin and Jamie were able to have following the ceremony before their epic reception began at the Casa Monica, more coming soon :)

Real Weddings {Stacey + Paul}

I LOVE guys with a sense of humor and Paul has got a fantastic one. He not only kept me on my toes but my cheeks hurt from smiling and laughing so much! Stacey is lovely in every way and is a perfect match for Paul and whatever he has to throw at her :)

I thought I would start this post off a little different than the rest and show a bit more behind the scenes getting ready. I adore how a simple black and white image can share the emotion of the moment and am soooo thrilled that Stacey shares the same passion for black and white photography!

The day was beautiful- warm, with a gentle waterfront breeze. The ceremony was set amongst the oak trees at the always lovely Club Continental. Stacey was absolutely breathtaking!

Following the ceremony Stacey had appropriated plenty of time into the formal pictures so with the extra to spare we were able to capture the new Mr. and Mrs. in some nice alone time.

Ahhh, the details were amazing- so personalized and flowed from beginning to end. Every photographers dream :) Thank you Stacey for taking so much careful planning on every little detail, the finished vision was picture perfect!And to wrap up the sneak peek, a couple of the all time favs from the day- Congratulations Stacey and Paul, I wish you all the best and a house full of kiddos!!! xoxo

Happy Mother's Day

I love my husband, my job, my friends and my family but can honestly say that I never completely understood the true depth of love until we were blessed with children.

When our first son was born I thought I would burst with the new amounts of love and responsibility that was filling me up. At that time I thought how on earth could I have any more room in my heart for more...but I was wrong.

That love continued to grow and GROW as we increased our little family into now a busy family of five. With three children I can say that I feel more complete and inspired than ever before.

Each has opened up my eyes to new parts and understated simple joys of life that I had forgotten about. To say I LOVE them would be so much of an understatement it is inconceivable. I honestly do not believe there is a spoken word to describe it- it's a feeling that is within my entire being that is for ever increasing with each and every tiny smile, boisterous giggle and big bear hugs.

So on Mother's Day I would like to

...wish all the mother's the best

...thank my mom for all her love...now I finally understand!

...thank my husband and our wonderful children for such a richly blessed life!

And most of all Thank God for loving us enough for sending His son to bear our burden so we did not have to suffer ourselves. Through all my years as a Christian I never fully understood this love and sacrifice. I am thankful for just a small glimpse at the unconditional love that God has for me through the love I feel for my own sweet little ones! How amazing :)

Sneak Peek {O'neal is 1 Year!}

Wow, it's not until you reach the one year milestone that you realize just how quickly time really does go! It seems like only a few months ago we were taking newborn portraits of O'neal!

She still has that same amazing smile that just melts your heart!

And oh, big girl is walking :)

We had so much fun just letting her run the show at the park and seeing her face light up with all the excitement surrounding her.

What a precious little girl she is, LOVE spending time with her and her amazing momma!!!

{Erin + Jamie} Part II

So, we left off with Erin and Jamie in the first half of our session hand in hand walking through the historic streets of St. Augustine...

After a quick break and change we were back at it- this time in uniform.

I felt so proud walking beside them and really enjoyed a few people stopping and thanking them for their service to our country (that really warms my heart!)

Along the way, I learned a lot of service rules and regulations and that Erin in fact outranks Jamie (ha, she really loves that!)

Whole heartedly I cannot say just how much respect and gratitude I have for Erin, Jamie and all our service men and women. What they do for us and the future of our children can never be measured.

Erin and Jamie are two of a kind- sweet, funny and sooooo in love!

From the first email Erin sent me from Afghanistan, there was a very special place in my heart.I am beyond humbled and so admire the sacrifice that service men and women make for our nation and others all around the world. So I am pretty sure I was nearly as excited as she was about her upcoming wedding and her return home.

They drove in from Mississippi to meet for our session in beautiful sunny St. Augustine. We hit the streets and explored all the nooks, crannies and alleys of historic downtown.

Jamie also serves our country so part two of their engagement session will be complete with them in uniform and a behind the scenes video of our day together- but for now, here's some more fun shots to hold you over :)

We are back from hosting one of the best photography retreats and workshops EVER!!!

...and I must say while it is nice to be back home in my own cozy bed I really LOVED each and every day that we had in California & Mexico and I already miss everyone sooo much!

Two years ago, I put complete faith in God and followed my heart to create a unique retreat for photographers to relax, network and learn and I continue to be blown away at the results of what happens when like minded individuals come together to lift each other up, grow with each other in their lives + businesses and create friendships that will last a lifetime!

I have been Reflecting on 2010 and what a blessed year it was not only for our family with the addition of our sweet little girl, the begining of T-ball and pre-school for our boys, and continued growth of our business with fantastic clients!

We have truly been blessed in every aspect of our lives and I feel that I have a direct responsibility to give back and bless others in any way that I can. Last year I had the opportunity to have a very long discussion with the founder of Thirst Relief, a global organization that has made it his mission to impact the lives of communities (specifically families and children) by focusing on one of our simplest and most necessary resources; healthy drinking water.

Through my conversations with Jim (founder of Thirst Relief) I learned so much about what precious a resource it truly is and have made a personal commitment to make an impact.The statistics were heart breaking, but I was delighted to realize the effectiveness of funds when I learned that every $5 will provide clean drinking water to one individual for life! As a mother of three myself, I could not imagine living with a loss or illness of a child simply because they did not have clean water to drink. We will continue to remain active in all our local efforts with non-proffits location right here in Jacksonville, Florida but have decided that this year is the first of many that we will incorporate a global effort and support Thirst Relief with each and every session. Please join me in anyway that you feel led in donation, booking a session or volunteering for any organization that has captured your heart.

Oh wow, did the cold come fast and finally smack this Florida girl in the face- ha! But, I could not think of a better couple to brave the cold (and wind) with than Camille and Scott.Now, it's no secret that I adore Camille and just have soooo much fun when I am with her...however, to say that they are hilarious together is a huge understatement.

We were all laughing so hard that it was hard to relax the smile for just a couple seconds before cracking up again, but we managed and think we did pretty good :)
Camille, thank you for your warm smile, giving heart and endless supply of super-charged positive energy. Scott, thank you for loving Camille so much so she can be such a blessing to others- you are both so wonderful!Merry Christmas!!!

Holiday Sneek Peak + More {The Stanford Family}

Warning: Much more than a sneak peek- a very personal note to a very special family...

The Stanford's are among my favorite clients for many reasons (with the top being that they are family of course- ha!) But beyond that I love the trust and confidence my big sister places in me every year for her family Christmas Cards. Not only is she one of my strongest encouragers but she's also one of the most frank and "tell it like it is" type of person I know (she gets that from Mom). If it's not good, she tells you (without sugar coating it...like me, ha!). If she tells you it's good, you know you have really accomplished something fantastic...but if she tells you it's great then remind yourself to breathe because that is one heck of a compliment ;)

From the time I was little she has always set an example of high standards, commitment and quality and never settles for anything less. She is quite possibly my biggest fan and knows she does not have to be, that's what I love about her! She along with many in my family and close friends are the reason I have pursued and have enjoyed success living my dream so when I have the chance to really thank them from the bottom of my heart, well I just have to scream it from the roof tops...THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Ok, now on to the real sneak peek and super fun stuff...
In the most fantastic and peaceful setting we did these pictures at her home on Lake Lanier (ahhhh, love it!). Surrounded by stone, winter forests and the glassy lake...sublime!

Riley, really doesn't need much of an introduction- I am sure by now he has already melted your heart with those big baby blues...
But don't let him fool you, he's a true big brother and keeps his sister Reese in check (and thanks to Riley, she's going to be one tough little girl!) This was one of my favorites because it really shows the sweet relationship they have (outside all the fights, but hey...who's counting- ha!)And I think this is the one that will grace the custom designed holiday card that we will slip out of the envelope this Christmas. April always does a fabulous job creating the classiest cards and I am always honored that they are graced with not only a beautiful image that I have taken but that they so perfectly represent the family that I love so much!

Sneak Peek {Brooke + Billy}

I have to first just let it out and share how much I
L-O-V-E Brooke :)
We have been friends since High School and had such a great time together my Junior and Senior year. Every time I see her a part of me is transported back and I get the warm and fuzzies and feel soooooo young again (not that I am "old"- he, he!)

So of course I was thrilled to spend a beautiful morning in the park with her and her super sweet husband, Billy (and can't forget their little cutie pie, Oliver).

Brooke designs amazing custom stationary, invitations and greetings {Trendy Ink Designs} so I knew she had a vision in mind. We got our game plan together as Billy and Oliver waited patiently and then everyone fell right in place.
I love the simplicity and playfulness that their little family has, can't wait to see what Brooke comes up with for the Holidays!
And this one is my all time favorite! It just encompasses what the day was all about and to me is the perfect picture of a memory :)

Here's just Part 1 of Brayden's sneak peek (yes, there are that many favorites!)We met at the Pumpkin Patch and to say that he was excited and ready to go would be a great understatement! Brayden is a bundle of energy and ALL boy (which thankfully I am trained well for) so of course we ran all over the feilds, through the pumpkin patch and played hide and seek through the trees. Only stopping for just a moment because one of his boots came off- ha! And then he caught a glimpse of the barrel train so off we went to Miss Penelope... ...and that's only the half of it! Stop Breast Cancer

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and all of us at some point in our lives have been touched by this devistating disease (and if you have not yet, the odds are overwhelming that you will be in the future).

I always love to be able to give back, help out and pay it forward and have been blessed to be involved with some fantastic events this year specifically taking aim at finding a cure for breast cancer. Today, we have the opportunity to come together as a community of photographers to contribute in our own way in helping bring an end to this fight. My wonderful friend Lydia Shannon followed her heart for making a difference and has created the online auction f/stop breast cancer with a goal to contribute over $10,000 to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Photographers and Businesses of all levels within our industry have donated products and services to be sold to the highest bidder! The auction starts today and runs through October 19th.

Micheli's New Dress

Today I was inspired by my sweet friend Camille and my wonderful mom and here's the results!

Camille (aka the world's most fabulous fairy Godmother- yes, there is a title and she won...hands down) brought back this adorable little dress for Micheli from her recent trip to Honduras. I love the vintage feel of it and it fits her perfectly!It was the ideal first pairing for the old wicker rocking chair my mom ("Grami") insisted that I just "had to have" (ha!) I guess this is the part where I say the words every mother wants to hear..."You were right, mom!" I do love the wicker rocker and am glad you stayed on me about getting it (love you!)

This was Micheli's first encounter with wicker and she really enjoyed exploring it- these were just too cute to leave out so I wanted to share...
I really love how everything turned out and look forward to much more to come with our sweet baby girl and the lil' rocking chair...and I think Micheli kinda likes it too :)

Here's a preview of what we are currently working on as we kick off this year's Fall Family Sessions :)After the the family groupings, we had fun with the girls on the beach. Gracen posed for me on the boardwalk while I "warmed up" my camera to get ready to chase them in the sand...this was one of her still moments- ha, she's always so much fun!...and after her big sis gave us a few still moments, little Miss Leighton was excited to do the same.One of my absolute favorites of the girls- I just love them to pieces!

All you really needed was another reason to love Saturdays, right? Well, here's another one to add to your list...The Riverside Arts Market :)
Packed full of handmade goodies from jewelry, clothing, art, gifts to funnel cakes, garden fruits + veggies and fresh squeezed lemonade there is truly something for everyone!
Fresh fruit and produce was also a popular feature of the market with samples of sweet Georgia peaches, blueberries and soooo much more. I really enjoyed seeing all the unique offerings like the tater dog, swamp sauce and...... discovering my new love MY Pepper Jelly (oh yeah...keep reading!) Hands down my absolute favorite part of the day was meeting Monica and Yvette. They have found the perfect combination of hot and sweet in their line of homemade pepper jellies.

You may wonder what all my excitement was about- well simply put, I LOVE hot Brie fresh out of the oven topped with pepper jelly and my source (my wonderful Aunt Kathryn) stopped making her Apricot Pepper Jelly and I had not found anything to take it's place...until now- YAY!!!!!

I tried all six of their current flavors: MY Original, Habanero, Pineapple Habanero, Mango Habanero, Strawberry Lime and Blackberry Peach Chipotle and thankfully they have a special when you buy 3- ha!

I am already looking forward to our next trip back and seeing all the wonderful vendors, artists and friends again. Hope to see you there!

Summer is winding down as Fall starts to roll in and the boys have went back to school. Our whirlwind summer adventures are still fresh in my mind and each day we spend running here and there only reminds me more and more how quickly the time goes by.
This afternoon, instead of naps we let the boys stay up, play a little longer and headed out for some fun pics for the great grandparents (well, and for grandparents + mommy and daddy, too!)...

Hudson has always been more patient and absolutely adores his baby sister so naturally there's more of him playing with her and being a wonderful big brother. I can't help but feel that one day he is going to treasure these pictures with her even more than we do! Noah gets business done and then moves on to the next thing on his agenda- he makes me laugh (and cry-ha!). He is master of his own little world and I love and admire his spirit- but darned if that little guy does not just wear us out, pheeeeww!Here are a few more of my favorites and I know I say it all the time... but I really, really, really can not believe how fast they are growing. I am sooooo unbelievably blessed to have such a wonderful family and to do what I love- thank you all for sharing it with me :) XOXO!
